Getting There

The conference will be organised at the campus of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), located in the city of Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. Yogyakarta is a major city and can be reached easily by airplane through the Adisucipto International Airport, located at about 10 km from the city center. The most convenient way of traveling for most international participants will be by airplane to the international airports of Jakarta or Denpasar. From these airports, there are frequent domestic flights to Yogyakarta, in different price categories (starting from about 30 EUR one way flight). From the airport in Yogyakarta, you may take a taxi to your hotel or the conference venue at UGM, which would cost around 60,000 IDR (about 5 EUR). The route from Adisucipto International Airport to the first venue (Gadjah Mada University Club Hotel) during August 20-22 can be seen below. The location of the second venue will be at the Faculty of Agriculture UGM (please see the tab “Venue”).

Please keep in mind that the committees doesn’t provide any booking of transportation and accommodation. Please find by personal or may be you can check the list of recommendation that have been provided below.

Yogyakarta is a major tourist city in Indonesia, and hosts a massive variety of hotels, ranging from high end 5 star hotels to cheap but comfortable hotels and guesthouses. Booking of accommodation is not possible through the website, and is the responsibility of the individual participants. However, in case you experience difficulties in booking accommodation, the organizers may provide help in finding a suitable place. Because August is a very busy tourist period in Yogyakarta, we advice that you book rooms well in advance, in order to secure a good choice and a good price.

The official currency in Indonesia is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR). Payment in hotels, restaurants, shops etc is only possible in IDR. Many hotels, restaurants and shops accept major credit cards. There are plenty of money changers and banks where both EUR and US$ can be readily exchanged. ATM machines are available throughout the city and the country. Nearly all accept VISA/Mastercard, and some accept cards with Maestro function.

Yogyakarta is at an elevation of only around 100 m asl, and its climate is tropical monsoon, with high temperatures throughout the year. August is in the dry season, but expect occasional showers.

There are no specific health risks such as malaria for Java and Bali, and no obligatory vaccinations. Please check whether vaccinations/medicines may be advisable in your specific situation. In general, it is easy to get most medicines locally.
